SK∞ Hair Design Academy

3-D art is oberved in terms of its height, width and depth. At SK∞ hair design, this is how we look at hair. As hair designers this is the art form we have all chosen. Form is the term used to describe 3-D artwork. Forms can be geometric or organic. Hairdressing has volume, which is the amount of space occupied by a form. Form also has mass, which means that the volume is solid and occupies space. This is the perspective we use when we are cutting, colouring,and dressing hair. SK8 breaks down 3-D design into 3 main elements.

Balance

3 in the first degree describes Balance. Balance denotes visual balance, not the ability to stand upright. We describe balance as the fundamental basics we all need to control both length and weight. In todays hairdressing world, we need the ability to cut hair with precision in all 3 ways of cutting line, layer an graduation. We teach to foresee color falling vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. When we are styling hair we take note of how the hair lies on the skin, whether it is a clear hard line, broken and feathery, or has a build up of hair supporting the height and the width of a style.

To find true balance of a shape we must look at shape to discover the form. Round forms include circular, cylindrical or curved. Square forms are rectangular or trapezoid etc. Triangular forms include equilateral, isosceles etc.

Looking and preconceiving these shapes along with the form of line, layers and graduation, will give stylists the confidence and mastery to complete infinite numbers of classic hairstyles.

Proportion

3 squared describes Proportion. Proportion describes looking at various parts of the object. In hair design, this is how we zonally breakdown head shape to truly understand how hair hangs, moves and builds. In this discipline, we map out disciplined design by breaking the head shape down horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Looking within the hairstyle, cut or color taking shapes in different ways all with sense of belonging together.

Rhythm

3 cubed describes Rhythm. Rhythm is the repetition of line or shapes within the form. This part of hair cutting is where we learn ho to create or recreate the fabric you are working on. With balance and proportion being mastered allows the rhythm to use free hand techniques. Looking at hair styling like a flower designer looks at an arrangement; hair color is like a painter and a canvas, and hair cutting becomes more lie a sculptor reshaping organic material.
